Sanyo MM5600 Network Settings

I have an app loaded on a Sanyo 5600. Developer root is enabled and the app is signed. When I start the program I am not given the choice of if I want to let it connect to the internet. It assumes I don't and it won't work. The same app runs on a Samsung MM700 and I can go into options for the app and choose whether or not it should be allowed to access the network. I don't get this choice anywhere that I can see on the 5600. Ideas? Thanks.

Go to [i:540e76cda0]Applications[/i:540e76cda0], select your app, press [i:540e76cda0]Options[/i:540e76cda0], [i:540e76cda0]Settings[/i:540e76cda0], [i:540e76cda0]Network Access[/i:540e76cda0].

BTW, my MM-5600 is ([i:540e76cda0]##786#, OK, Details, Version[/i:540e76cda0]) S: 1.01SP and H: 0101.

Unfortunately, that is not an option. The 'Settings' tab under options is simply not there. It is present for other applications on the phone, but not ours, which leads me to believe there is some permission or something that we need to set when building the app. This has never been a problem before on other phones.

I'm not at all familiar with developing midlets for phones, so take this conjecture with that in mind... From what you way it would indeed sound like there is some meta-data attribute of the app that determines whether network access is potentially allowable for the app.

No idea if this would help you, but here's some info on Wireless Java Security and Permissions in the Java 2 SDK.

The latter mentions this:

[quote:b0165245b9]The policy for a Java application environment is represented by a Policy object. In the default Policy implementation, the policy can be specified within one or more policy configuration files. The policy file(s) specify what permissions are allowed for code from specified code sources. A sample policy file entry granting code from the /home/sysadmin directory read access to the file /tmp/abc is
[code:1:b0165245b9] grant codeBase "file:/home/sysadmin/" {
permission java.io.FilePermission "/tmp/abc", "read";
};[/code:1:b0165245b9]
[/quote:b0165245b9]

Again, I have no idea whether this applies to your particular development environment nor the phone's runtime environment.

Try adding the following MIDlet-Permissions to the JAD file and then resigning the application; this should give you the network access option in the settings menu:

MIDlet-Permissions: javax.microedition.io.Connector.http, javax.microedition.io.Connector.https

That did it. Thanks.
