Web Comics viewing application...

There are MANY applications available for viewing online comics -- for various operating systems -- but I have been unable to find a comic viewer for mobile phones. I wouldn't think that it would be that difficult to write a program that can grab an image via a URL and and allow the user to scroll from left to right to view the comic, but maybe it would be harder than it seems.

Any ideas?

Web Comics viewing application...

Most mobile browsers will do this easily without a custom J2ME application. For example, I can open this link on my phone:

I can scroll left-right and up-down over that cartoon.

Oops, I figured I better actually try it. Wouldn't you know, the Openwave browser in my LG-325 does not scroll over pictures. It rescaled the cartoon down to fit on my display thus rendering it unreadable.

If there is a way to expand the cartoon to normal size, I couldn't find it easily. This is not the case with other phones I've owned in the past. They show you the picture and let you scroll over it. I'll try the Obigo browser on one of my Samsungs...

Nope, the A700 scales it down too. I wonder if this is a new Sprint requirement... No, I can't find any mention of it in Sprint's documentation.

Let's try one more thing. I'll make a web page with an IMG tag using the link to the cartoon... Nope, that didn't work either. Both browsers rescale the image.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. It used to work from my Sanyo 4900 (browser by Access). Maybe a J2ME application isn't a bad idea afterall.
